In Progress- Failure Ahead

The work I mentioned doing yesterday. Now I have pieced (ugh) the whole thing and cut the painted planets out and placed them on the surface. I don't particularly like the border on the far left. Will take it off. I guess I have to replace it with something so the whole thing doesn't pitch to the right. I think the top border will look better when the left one is darker. Now that the center planet is larger the composition works better. I may or may not repaint the planet on a new piece of muslin. This whole thing is much darker than the photo shows as the flash lightens everything with the bounce back light. I've almost come to the conclusion that anything I make this month will be a failure. Mercury in retrograde. Please stop!

I like the center block.. and the right and bottom strips. I agree that the lefthand border isn't right (too light and too regularly patterned).. but I also don't see the top border working. Everything in the main composition reads orange/green/wine kind of colors. No pinky-mauve. Maybe the color works better in person, but this picture? Not so much.

One of the basic guidelines to taking digital craft pictures is to not use your flash, using only natural light. Ofcourse in the wintertime, natural light is frequently at a premium...

I think you're crazy. I love it all. I think all the colors are referencedd in other parts of the piece. It's very different from most of the work that I have seen you do. Thay may be why you're frustrated. Maybe you are accostumed to turning out those beautiful giagantic flowers and this is just a new sensibility. I'd consider a round shape coming out of the border --- ala Sonji's timtex circles.
